Heating and furnace repair in Houston
Houston heating is a different problem than heating up north. Your system sits unused for ten months, then gets asked to run hard on the handful of nights a year it matters. That idle time is exactly why it fails when you finally switch it on.
The most common no-heat call
A system that worked fine last winter and does nothing now. Dust settles on burners and sensors over a long idle summer, and flame sensors in particular get a film on them that stops the furnace proving ignition. It lights, runs a few seconds, and shuts down. That is usually a clean, not a replacement.
What we service
- Gas furnaces. Ignitors, flame sensors, gas valves, limit switches, and inducer motors.
- Heat pumps. Reversing valves, defrost boards, and auxiliary heat strips that never engage.
- Electric strip heat, including sequencers and the breakers that feed them.
- Thermostats and control wiring, where a heat call never reaches the equipment.
Gas safety is not optional. On any gas system we check the heat exchanger for cracks and confirm the flue is drafting properly. A cracked exchanger can put carbon monoxide into your house. If we find one, we will tell you plainly and shut it down. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas company before you call us.
Freeze events
Houston gets a hard freeze rarely enough that most homes are not ready for it, and when it happens every HVAC company in the city is booked solid at once. The fix is unglamorous: run your heat for fifteen minutes in October. If it does not come on, you have found out in mild weather instead of at 3am in February when nobody can get to you.
A faint burning smell on first startup is normal. It is dust burning off the heat exchanger and should clear within a few minutes. A smell that persists is not normal.
Heat pumps in our climate
Heat pumps make a lot of sense in Houston because our winters are mild and the same equipment cools you all summer. If yours is running the backup electric strips constantly on a 45 degree night, something is wrong, and it is showing up on your electric bill.
